| The
Sigma Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Lambda was chartered on March 4,
1970, at Oil Belt Vocational Technical School. The Sigma Epsilon charter
remained active, winning numerous state and national awards, until
the merger of Oil Belt Technical College and Southern Arkansas University
- El Dorado Branch in 1992. Follow in the merger, South Arkansas Community
retained the chapter name, and the organization continues to be involved
on local, state and national levels. PBL
provides opportunities for its students to develop leadership skills,
social awareness, and self-discipline within the classroom and in
the community

Arkansas Community College, located in south central Arkansas
in El Dorado, is approximately 15 miles north of the Arkansas/Louisiana
state line. El Dorado has a population of 23,015. Union County, the
main service area of South Arkansas Community College, has a population
of 49,947. Union County, covering 1,054 square miles, is the home
of nine public school districts.
Today South Arkansas Community College is a public,
two-year institution with an open-door policy, providing educational
programs, services, and resources for the residents of Union County
and the surrounding area. SouthArk is the result of a 1992 merger
of Oil Belt Technical College and Southern Arkansas University-El
Dorado Branch. South Arkansas Community College offers transfer
certificates and degrees, a broad community service program, and
a Business Education Center.
Credit
and non-credit enrollment at South Arkansas Community College is
4,315 students a year.
